    A list.

    • Walk in the Woods – Bill Bryson (reread)
    • Close Encounters on the Appalachian Trail – Bill Walker
    • Highs and Lows on the Pacific Crest Trail – Bill Walker
    • Wild – Cheryl Strayed
    • Harley and Me – Harvey Williams
    • AWOL on the Appalachian Trail – David Miller

All these books are stories by people who walked long distance trails in the US. Either the 2,800 miles Appalachian Trail, which crosses 14 states in the eastern US, or its even longer sister, the 3,500 miles long Pacific Crest Trail, which only takes three states to make it from El Campo on the Mexican border in California to all the way in Canada, just over the Washington State border. The funny thing is that I read all these books, except for the first one, on my iPad. The even funnier thing is that I hope that I will be able to write a similar book myself. Walking the AT has been a long held dream of mine, and I’ve been working hard to build on my condition. 2014 is my aim. A year later perhaps, depending on my finances.

In the afternoon I went to Spa Zuiver in Amsterdamse Bos, just southwest of the city. The weather just wasn’t beachy enough but tomorrow should be better so that’s where I’ll go! Spa Zuiver is great though and when I was there the sun came out just a bit after all and it was nice to just lie on the sunbeds in the large garden. It’s good to spoil yourself whenever possible. The picture is of Bosbaan, which is where the rowing championships were held in the 1928 Amsterdam Summer Olympics. To be honest, this year’s London Olympics have gone by fairly unnoticed by me, although of course from the many newspaper articles I gather they are a wonderful success. That’s great because everyone seemed a bit gloomy ahead of the event.
