"Victory!" I exclaimed to Ant when I was chatting with him earlier today, "I've decided what my family and me will be having for Christmas dinner, for when they are here on Boxing Day! And I just bought it already! It's going to be RABBIT!" Ouch, that wasn't as impressive to him as it was to me. He replied that the thought had made him puke over his keyboard. It sort of had slipped my mind that his rabbit had died earlier this year - the same rabbit that was living here exactly a year ago when they were evicted from Maastricht (Rabbit, and Ant, and Boyfriend-His-Not-Rabbit's). So I guess I should not have mentioned to Ant what the dinner was going to be for Christmas. Sorry!

Yes, my family is coming over, on Boxing Day actually, and that always means a lot of preparations. Not only is there The Cleaning Of The House, which will be done over the next couple of days. But there is also The Buying Of The Groceries. And that happened mostly today. In three trips to the supermarkets (one organic one, two to a normal supermarket) I bought about 230 euros / 310 dollars / 160 pounds worth of groceries - all by bike. Much to my relief everything went fairly smoothly. Quickly I had already spotted the rabbit so that was going to be the basis for the day. All other things were easily found, so by mid-day I was a happy chappy - all groceries bought! Rabbit, if you live in the UK or the US may seem like a terrible thing to eat, but it's quite normal in Continental Europe. And it is actually delicious - I just hope that the way I'll be preparing it on Tuesday will be successful. I'll let you know!

The picture shows the unofficial start of The Cleaning Of The House. I started yesterday evening by cleaning out the glass cabinet. Don't it look purdy now?

  • Oh dear, poor Ant.

Whatever you eat Enrico, enjoy yourself. xx

  • I grew up eating rabbit on my Pater's reservation in northern Michigan on teh Odawa Reserve. It was browned off then baked with an onion, carrot, celery and some beer as I remember, the drippings turned into a rich tasting gravy and my Grandmother served with it with fresh bread and a potato's boiled not baked. Yes indeed a fabulous a meal.

  • Hi Enrico,

If you need more rabbits, you now where to find them. Mary x-mas. See you tuesday.
