Another visitor today… my friend Günter came over for a traditional night of pizza, red wine and the lost art of conversation. I hadn’t seen Günter for a long time – well, a month anyway – so it was good to catch up again with the things that have happened since. It does mean that we tend to talk about work quite a lot because Günters partner Rob also works in the company I work for, and Ian, a mutual friend, works there as well. Lots of inbreeding going on as you can tell. With all the gossiping that goes with that. Usually at some point either of us says something like “Enough about work!” and we switch to topics that do matter.
Because it was one of the last nights of this year, I thought I’d open a bottle of red wine that’s been in my cupboard for quite some time now: a 2001 Chateauneuf-du-Pape. These are typically very good wines and opening a bottle is always a nice excuse for a little celebration or festive evening… except that this bottle turned out to be corked… No high quality, gone were the expectations. Too bad.

dontcha hate that? good company is a terrific consolation though.
I recently bought a highly recommended chardonnay for my Xmas party. I was appalled to discover that it had a SCREW CAP. Apparently that is current trend as it preserves wine better.
Gimme the damn cork any day.
That is one good bottle of wine.
PS well I think so….maybe I had a different brand of pape
It won’t succeed as a matter of fact, that’s what I believe.
